I approached The Castle an indoor climbing wall, with a proposal to design and develop a web application that integrated front and back office workflows with a client facing interface.
This application would give customers a way to interact with the data, provide the business with useful analytics and streamline route management workflows.
Prior to this project I worked for The Castle as a freelancer managing their website. Providing new and update existing content, I also produced several short videos for the site, to keep the content fresh.
I worked on this project solely and in addition to my webmaster role which I was previously undertaking as a freelancer.
The application provides live route information to both users and management, facilitating work allocations to be assigned and published. The system allows the setting of time scales, to automatically flag routes indicating when they needed to be re-assigned. An access control level system was implemented to allow authenticated access to personalised interfaces for various user roles. E.g. An interface to allow staff with appropriate access to update the database with new information and subsequently produce printed route boards.
The application also had the facility for customers to interact with the data, searching for active climbs by area, grade, climb type or by setter, and allow them to keep a personal log book of their personal achievements.
After the successful migration of the existing data and providing training on the new system, the delivery of the first phase was complete. I went on to extended the model to incorporate instructor workflows into the system including; client and staff bookings, voucher payments and pre-registration for clients. Moving the company towards a paperless administration system.
